Ending menstrual poverty and shame through innovative reusable sanitary pads

Many girls where MCFPAnairobi works face period poverty. This means that they lack of access to menstrual products, education, hygiene facilities, waste management, or a combination of all.

Dignity For Every Girl

As are result many young girls and women miss school or work. To address this challenge MCFp established a social enterprise that produces reusable sanitary pads with the goal of reducing factors that risk access to education for girls, and at the same time offer employment to single teenage mothers.

The awareness on issues that girls face during their menstrual period has informed the reusable sanitary pads project. Reusable Sanitary pads aren’t just hygienic they also enhance their dignity as girls/women, they are skin friendly as they are made from natural fiber which in turn makes them environmental friendly and best of all, they are affordable as they are 3 time cheaper than disposable pads and last for up to 12 months.

We at MCFpanairobi are striving to change the attitude of shame towards Menstruation by reminding girls, their guardians and parents that Menstruation is a normal process, and there are cheaper ways of menstrual management.

This is through our Reusable Sanitary Towels project, where “a girl gets to stay in school and live without fear of menstrual shaming”.
